ECREA Crisis is the biennial conference organized by the Risk and Crisis Communication section of ECREA (the European Communication Research and Education Association), held regularly since 2009.
Following the established practices of ECREA, as well as its core mission, the conference acts as an exchange hub for European and International communication scholars and aims to provide a rich environment to critically discuss and compare different theoretical approaches and empirical findings in coexisting research fields related to risk and crisis communication.
With a different focus for each edition, ECREA Crisis is dedicated to exploring how communication functions during crises and risks, including the roles of media, digital platforms, and societal actors in managing crises like natural disasters, pandemics, or reputational threats.
The 2025 edition, ECREA Crisis 8 revolves around the converging paths of crisis management, sustainability and digital change and is organized in Bucharest (Romania), from September 15 to September 17, 2025 by the College of Communication and Public Relations, National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA).
For Crisis 8 – Communication at the crossroads: the intersection of crisis management, sustainability, and digital transformation we invite researchers and practitioners presenting cross-disciplinary approaches from communication, public relations, journalism, business, marketing, education, political communication, management, and other related fields. We also encourage PhD students to submit presentations and to attend the thematic workshops featured within the conference as well as a PhD workshop focused on career development for young professionals.
